Comedy Movies/Movie name based on 1 scene?

Question
Hi Ms Baker

Thankyou for looking at this.

The movie was straight to video.
Set in the US. Probably LA.
The guy in the scene was not the main lead of the movie, but friends to him. They were typical comedy movie best friends. He had Dark / black hair, no distinguishing looks, i.e. average/attractive man looks for the screen.
The woman in the clothes store shot, had a pony tail, dark brown / black hair, attractive.
Release date wise, It was a trailer to a movie I saw within the same time I saw the movie Thursday from the video store (A great movie!)

That's about all I can offer. It's a long shot, I know, but thankyou anyway.
Regards
Dale

-----Question-----
Hello

If you can answer this, I'd be very greatful. Sorry I don't have much to go on.
This is a comedy probably with hidden message (Guy realises the error of his ways) from around the year 1998.
The guy's character believes that the sexual verosity of a woman can be told by correlation to the size and style of her backpack. Backpacks are of course a sign that she can stay the night.
The scene I saw in the trailer (Either 1999 or 2000 on Video only) involved said guy walking into a clothes store, seeing a fit attractive woman shopping, with a tiny, leaopard patterned backpack on. The guy went virtually catatonic staring at her while his mind wandered at the thought of this woman.

Well, that's it. Hope to hear from you. Thanks.

Dear Dale:  I don't yet have a firm answer for you, despite looking for several days.  I'm writing to see if you have an other information about this film, because this sequence doesn't seem to be a main plot point.  It is possible that it could be from any number of crude comedy films relased in the late 1990s.  Unfortunately, this limited information is just not enough for me to locate the exact film from this information.

So, is there anything else you can tell me about this film based on the trailer you saw?  Could it be a film only released to video?  Can you recall anything else about the guy--his appearance, the possible actor playing him, etc.?  Without such information, I'm not sure I can come up with a title for you (sorry).

I will be waiting for your followup question.

Answer
Well, I appreciate the added data, but I'm just not able to track down this title, I'm sorry.  Perhaps if you can recall the original film you saw with this trailer on it, you could rewatch that film, to see if you can find the trailer again, and that might give you the answer.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what you can try--perhaps someone else on this website might have an answer (sometimes that happens, too).

Again, I'm very sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Expertise

I am a professor of communication at a midwest university, who has expertise on subjects related to film. I can answer general questions on U.S. film comedy (especially satires of the 1960s and 1970s) and comic theory. I also could answer questions related to specific comic genres, such as comedian comedies, screwball comedies, "stupid" comedies, and so forth. The more specific you can make your question, the better (e.g. main plot details, main characters, possible character names, possible actors, how you viewed the show, etc.). I also need to have a release date (or range of dates, or at least the year you viewed the film). Please do not just provide a set of links to someplace else (e.g. imdb discussion threads). I am less able to answer questions about comedies from other countries, made-for-TV movies, and recent comic films and actors (although I would do my best to find out). I cannot answer questions about specific TV shows or series, "Our Gang" episodes, anime/magna or about film collectables. I generally cannot provide movie recommendations, since what I find funny others may not. Nor will I answer obvious homework (although I will point you to resources to help answer the question, if asked). I also can't help you find movie stars, or where to buy movie memorabilia, or tell you how to break into the business.
