Comedy Movies/Need help remembering name of a comedy

Question
Thanks Barbara,
I did a little research myself on Amazon and I went down through the different types of comedies and as I said it really reminded me of the Marx Brothers. I finally located it underneath slapstick and Marx Bros. and the title of it is Brain Donors. Thanks again though, it was just a movie that I really wanna see again so I looked deeper into it myself.

Question -
Hi,
There was a movie that I watched a couple of times when I was younger that I loved but I have no clue what the name of it was. The only things that I can really remember is  that it reminds me of a lot of a Marx brother's movie, but at that point more up to date. I think it came out in the late 80's-early 90's. I remember one guy was either a lawyer or an insurance salesman and was always chasing after ambualances. I remember him meeting two other guys and it being a really waky comedy and it ended I think with all three of them chasing after an ambulance. I wish I could give you more details, but I can't remember anymore. If you have any clue what this movie is I would greatly appreciate it if you would tell me.
 Thanks
  Tony

Answer -
Tony, this might be a 1988 comedy film called "Paramedics." I'm not 100% certain because the plot description on the Internet Movie Data Base was sketchy, and not really as you've described.  However, it was the only comedy title I could locate with ambulances from the specified time period.  There was an earlier comedy called "Mother, Juggs, and Speed" (1978), but that fits your plot description even less.

Unfortunately, no recent comedy film title came up when I tried to cross reference "lawyers" or "salesmen" with "ambulances" on a keyword search, so I had to limit myself just to "ambulances" and "ambulance chases."  Thus, if either of these is NOT the film you are looking for, then I will probably need more information to track it down (such as how you saw it, if it could be a TV movie, any other plot events, characters, etc.).

Answer
That's great Tony. I'm always happy when someone finds an answer I wasn't able to find.  Although in my search I did look at slapstick comedies in the vein of The Marx Brothers, I doubt I would have come up with this particular title, since the description of it on the IMDB seems so different from what you noted in your original question (I was looking for ambulances, because that was the one of the keywords you provided, although clearly that is not a major plot point).

That's why sometimes the question-asker is the better searcher than the expert (as you read various film descriptions, you can cue into things you might have forgotten, thus leading you to the correct answer, as it seems to have happened in this instance).

The film appears to be a remake of the Marx Brothers' film "Animal Crackers" and certainly appears to have its fans.  Good luck in locating a copy.

Expertise

I am a professor of communication at a midwest university, who has expertise on subjects related to film. I can answer general questions on U.S. film comedy (especially satires of the 1960s and 1970s) and comic theory. I also could answer questions related to specific comic genres, such as comedian comedies, screwball comedies, "stupid" comedies, and so forth. The more specific you can make your question, the better (e.g. main plot details, main characters, possible character names, possible actors, how you viewed the show, etc.). I also need to have a release date (or range of dates, or at least the year you viewed the film). Please do not just provide a set of links to someplace else (e.g. imdb discussion threads). I am less able to answer questions about comedies from other countries, made-for-TV movies, and recent comic films and actors (although I would do my best to find out). I cannot answer questions about specific TV shows or series, "Our Gang" episodes, anime/magna or about film collectables. I generally cannot provide movie recommendations, since what I find funny others may not. Nor will I answer obvious homework (although I will point you to resources to help answer the question, if asked). I also can't help you find movie stars, or where to buy movie memorabilia, or tell you how to break into the business.
