Question
Do you know of any movies that use a riot in a comedic way? And any movies that use first aid, not cpr in a comedic way?

                  Thankyou,
                    Brian

Answer
Dear Brian:

I'll try to give you some response, but it depends somewhat on what you mean by "riot" (and even "first aid").  I haven't found any comedies about actual riots but many comedies have scenes in them that involve mob chaos and slapstick, starting with some of the silent comedies and going all the way to this year.  Here are a few that come to mind as having "riot-like" scenes in them (keeping in mind my understanding may not fit yours):

"Rat Race" (2001)
"Animal House" (1978)
"What's Up, Doc" (1972)
"Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" (1963--similar to "Rat Race")

As for first aid--do you mean by medical professionals or anyone?  Comedy films that revolve around doctors, nurses, and paradmedics are many, and, some involve first aid (along with surgery, cpr, etc.).  Many others have scenes of first aid (i.e. bandaging of characters, taking care of wounds, etc.).  I don't know of any that is specifically geared toward first aid, but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

Some possible titles dealing with medical stuff include:

"Nurse Betty" (2000)
"After Hours" (a dark comedy-thriller)
"Young Doctors in Love" (1982)
"Mother, Jugs, and Speed" (1976)
"The Hospital" (another dark comedy)
"M.A.S.H." (1970)
"The Disorderly Orderly" (1962)
"From Nurse to Worse" (1940--the Three Stooges)

So, unless you can be a bit more specific, this is what I've got.  Hope some of these work for you.

Expertise

I am a professor of communication at a midwest university, who has expertise on subjects related to film. I can answer general questions on U.S. film comedy (especially satires of the 1960s and 1970s) and comic theory. I also could answer questions related to specific comic genres, such as comedian comedies, screwball comedies, "stupid" comedies, and so forth. The more specific you can make your question, the better (e.g. main plot details, main characters, possible character names, possible actors, how you viewed the show, etc.). I also need to have a release date (or range of dates, or at least the year you viewed the film). Please do not just provide a set of links to someplace else (e.g. imdb discussion threads). I am less able to answer questions about comedies from other countries, made-for-TV movies, and recent comic films and actors (although I would do my best to find out). I cannot answer questions about specific TV shows or series, "Our Gang" episodes, anime/magna or about film collectables. I generally cannot provide movie recommendations, since what I find funny others may not. Nor will I answer obvious homework (although I will point you to resources to help answer the question, if asked). I also can't help you find movie stars, or where to buy movie memorabilia, or tell you how to break into the business.
