Comedy Movies/Rocketman

Question
Hi,
Where can I get the script for "Rocketman"? It's a comedy, but I'm not sure when it came out or who the producers were.
Thanks,
Leanna

Answer
Dear Leanna:

The movie "Rocket Man," a comedy/sci-fi hybrid, was released in 1997 by Disney/Buena Vista.  It was directed by Stuart Gillard, and the executive producer is Oren Aviv (who also is credited with the story, along with several others).  It starred Harland Williams as Fred Z. Randall, an obnoxious, geeky spacecraft designer who gets the chance to travel to Mars as a member of the first manned flight to the planet. Amazon.com has VHS copies for sale, and you may be able to find it at a local video store.

As for the script, I checked several script sites on the internet, and it appears most do not have this script, not even Drew's Script-O-Rama (www.script-o-rama.com) which has a fairly comprehensive listing.  I did locate one site with a typed copy of the "Rocket Man" script for sale for $13.00. That is P.D. & C. Movie Scripts at http://www.geocities.com/maverickscripts/Index.htm
There are several other possibilities. I suggest going to a web search engine like Google (www.google.com) or Ask Jeeves (www.ask.com) or Webcrawler (www.webcrawler.com) and typing in "RocketMan movie scripts" to see what you get--you may be able to locate a free script that way.  Most of the time, you will not get a "real" script (one that was actually used, with the director's notes, etc.); in my experience internet scripts are bootlegged copies or typed transcripts available "for educational purposes only"--but at least it is better than nothing.

I hope this answers your question.

Expertise

I am a professor of communication at a midwest university, who has expertise on subjects related to film. I can answer general questions on U.S. film comedy (especially satires of the 1960s and 1970s) and comic theory. I also could answer questions related to specific comic genres, such as comedian comedies, screwball comedies, "stupid" comedies, and so forth. The more specific you can make your question, the better (e.g. main plot details, main characters, possible character names, possible actors, how you viewed the show, etc.). I also need to have a release date (or range of dates, or at least the year you viewed the film). Please do not just provide a set of links to someplace else (e.g. imdb discussion threads). I am less able to answer questions about comedies from other countries, made-for-TV movies, and recent comic films and actors (although I would do my best to find out). I cannot answer questions about specific TV shows or series, "Our Gang" episodes, anime/magna or about film collectables. I generally cannot provide movie recommendations, since what I find funny others may not. Nor will I answer obvious homework (although I will point you to resources to help answer the question, if asked). I also can't help you find movie stars, or where to buy movie memorabilia, or tell you how to break into the business.
