Question
Hi Barbara, I hope you can help. I'm looking for a very funny movie I saw about 12 years ago. I don't know the actors name and I'm not really sure of the title, but I'll try to discribe it to you.
The story is about a Dr. or Scientist who is in his lab trying to create some kind of potion. He tries and tries until one day he falls asleep at the lab table, some of the chemicals he has been mixing together spill onto the table and he sniffs some.
This changes him into some kind of Jekyll and hyde (that might be the title)The story is basically about his antics as he sniffs this powder.
The funny part is each time he sniffs this powder he sings a song,"I've got nothing to hide".
The actor is white middle age, curly hair. He reminds me of a(young)Marty Feldman.

Answer
Dear Keith:  I believe the movie you are looking for is a 1982 release, "Jekyll and Hyde...Together Again."  It was directed by Jerry Belson and starred Mark Blankfield as Dr. Daniel Jekyll.  Blankfield has been in numerous "stupid" or parody comedy films.

Although this film was released 20 years ago, it comes the closest to what you've described. There are other comedies with a Jekyll & Hyde theme--but they are either films made prior to 1965 (such as the Abbott & Costello movie or Jerry Lewis's "Nutty Professor"), or films made after 1990 (such as "Dr. Jekyll & Ms. Hyde," a 1995 film where the doctor turns into a woman after sniffing perfume).

Although not identical to what you described, the plot summary of this film is similar.  Dr. Jekyll is researching drugs that would help people avoid surgery, and discovers a white powder that turns him into a type of crazy "party animal" every time he sniffs it.

Although I somehow missed this film (I'm not sure why), it gets rave reviews from customers at Amazon.com (which sells the VHS tape; it is also available from other resources).  The film is compared to Cheech & Chong (because of its apparent drug humor--a "white powder" that releases inhibitions, etc.).  Those writing the reviews clearly think it is a hilarious film, which makes me want to go watch it, if I can find a rental copy!

Expertise

I am a professor of communication at a midwest university, who has expertise on subjects related to film. I can answer general questions on U.S. film comedy (especially satires of the 1960s and 1970s) and comic theory. I also could answer questions related to specific comic genres, such as comedian comedies, screwball comedies, "stupid" comedies, and so forth. The more specific you can make your question, the better (e.g. main plot details, main characters, possible character names, possible actors, how you viewed the show, etc.). I also need to have a release date (or range of dates, or at least the year you viewed the film). Please do not just provide a set of links to someplace else (e.g. imdb discussion threads). I am less able to answer questions about comedies from other countries, made-for-TV movies, and recent comic films and actors (although I would do my best to find out). I cannot answer questions about specific TV shows or series, "Our Gang" episodes, anime/magna or about film collectables. I generally cannot provide movie recommendations, since what I find funny others may not. Nor will I answer obvious homework (although I will point you to resources to help answer the question, if asked). I also can't help you find movie stars, or where to buy movie memorabilia, or tell you how to break into the business.
