Comedy Movies/whats it called?!

Question
i remember watching this film as a kid numerous times, with my younger brother. but unfortunately he doesnt remember a thing about it. this would've been late 80's early 90's.

the film was a horror comedy, i believe the main guy was someone like john belushi but i dont think thats him.

anyway, the film starts with a man and woman meeting for the first time on a train/train station, and for some reason they go to a creey house at night time.
when they're there they notice a diamond bracelet sticking out from underneath the garage door, and when they pull it a dead hand comes out with it! always made me jump.
at the end of the film you find out that it was the maid and the butler that killed the person. im pretty certain it isnt 'clue' starring tim curry but it has a very similar theme.

any thoughts?

Answer
Natalie, I have a copy of thoughts, but the two films I'm thinking might fit are from the 1970s not the late 1980s or early 1990s.

The first film possiblity is "Murder By Death," a 1976 spoof of detective films set in an old house.  There are various characters--all meant to be like famous fictional detectives--coming up to a creepy old mansion.  It is a type of "Ten Little Indians" set-up (someone is murdering them one by one).  The ending might fit what you are recalling (it does have a twist concerning the butler and maid).  The "main guy" in it, however, is Truman Capote, who is not really like John Belushi, except maybe in weight.

The other film is the famous "Rocky Horror Picture Show" from 1975.  I don't recall if Brad and Janet are at a train station, but they do go to what can easily be called "a crazy house" at night time, where they meet a group of aliens that spoof horror movies (e.g. Dr. Frank-N-Furter).  The butler and maid are definitely not what they appear to be at first.  It is an interactive musical, and hard to forget, so it is unlikely to be one you are looking for, but I'm including it just in case.

If neither of these is the film you are thinking about, then I probably will need more information about the movie itself.  There are some other "haunted house" type spoofs, but I've not seen them, so I don't know if they fit your description better (e.g. "House of the Long Shadows" 1983 and "Bloodbath at the House of Death," 1984).

Expertise

I am a professor of communication at a midwest university, who has expertise on subjects related to film. I can answer general questions on U.S. film comedy (especially satires of the 1960s and 1970s) and comic theory. I also could answer questions related to specific comic genres, such as comedian comedies, screwball comedies, "stupid" comedies, and so forth. The more specific you can make your question, the better (e.g. main plot details, main characters, possible character names, possible actors, how you viewed the show, etc.). I also need to have a release date (or range of dates, or at least the year you viewed the film). Please do not just provide a set of links to someplace else (e.g. imdb discussion threads). I am less able to answer questions about comedies from other countries, made-for-TV movies, and recent comic films and actors (although I would do my best to find out). I cannot answer questions about specific TV shows or series, "Our Gang" episodes, anime/magna or about film collectables. I generally cannot provide movie recommendations, since what I find funny others may not. Nor will I answer obvious homework (although I will point you to resources to help answer the question, if asked). I also can't help you find movie stars, or where to buy movie memorabilia, or tell you how to break into the business.
