Question
Hi,

In the 90's I remember reading either a comic book or short graphic novel that I thought was called "The Pit."  No superheroes that I remember, it was about a mysterious pit appearing that took up most of Pennsylvania, and no traces of the land, its buildings, or people was found.  I'm not sure if it was a one-shot or continued in a series, but I'm having a devil of a time finding it on the web.  Any clues as to it's title or where I could find more information about it?

Thanks,
Mark

Answer
Hi, Mark -

Thanks for your question!  I do recall (and own a copy of) "The Pitt" from 1987 by John Byrne, Mark Gruenwald, Sal Buscema and Stan Drake.  It was in "Prestige Format", or squarebound in a stiffer paper cover and was, technically, a Graphic Novel.  This was part of Marvel's "New Universe" titles and I believe that StarBrand actually shows up somewhere in the story (the New Universe's version of a cross between Green Lantern and Superman).  It was kind of a "Reboot" for the New Universe and helped it limp along for a while longer before all the titles were canceled.

If you perform a search for "The Pitt" on eBay, you should find several copies available.

Hope that's helpful!

I`ve been collecting comics for over 40 years and am able to answer most questions regarding comics, creators, fandom and the industry from the Golden Age through to today`s comics, with an emphasis on super and action heroes and most of my expertise ranges in the Silver to Modern Ages. My expertise lies in DC Comics/National Periodical Publications, although my general knowledge extends well into Marvel, Tower, Archie, Charlton & many of the "Independent" companies that began in the late 70`s & 80`s. I do have some knowledge of the Western, Funny Animals, Romance and other genres, but to a lesser degree, so please don't grade me on specific knowledge of these areas if you choose to ask me questions on those topics.
