Question
QUESTION: Superman vs. Flash (Arena)

Batman vs. Flash (Arena)

I read on Wikipedia that Darkseid can go into other dimensions. Yet you picked the Edo god over him because of its trans-dimensional nature. Can you explain?

ANSWER: Hi John -

Wow that is a tough one!  I would guess that, in an Arena type situation, Superman would win.  Though Flash is a chemist and could put together weapons like Kirk did in the episode, I didn't get any indication that the planet contained any Kryptonite, which is about the only thing that can hurt Superman.

Even if Flash worked his super speed overtime to construct something that could block the yellow solar radiation that powers Superman, the Man-Of-Steel could undo the speedster's work just as quickly.

Plus, despite his powers Flash is still human and all Supes would have to do would be to wait him out as Superman does not necessarily need to eat or sleep but Flash still does.

In the second scenario I'd go with Flash.  As intelligent as Batman is, Flash could take him down before he even had time to formulate a coherent strategy.

I didn't know Darkseid could cross dimensions!  My thought was that the trans-dimensional thing gave the Edo God the advantage, but if Darkseid can cross dimensional boundaries I'd put my money on him!

Thanks

QUESTION: Who'd win in a race?

A) Fully-powered Superman
B) Flash

A) Very weak Superman (Superman with a Kryptonite bullet in his chest)
B) Data

Answer
Hi John -

Boy, that's a loaded question!  In DC Comics Presents #27 both heroes raced and it was essentially a tie.  Subsequent races between the two have resulted in a similar outcome.

After many readers got tired of that always happening, the pair have raced and Flash has been the decisive victor.

Flash in essence is a living avatar of an extra dimensional energy called the Speed Force.  Basically he is velocity, speed, movement, kinetic energy incarnate and when he 'died' he actually became 'one with the speed force'.

Even with his impressive abilities Superman is still an organic being who must (at some point) be subject to certain rules of physics (even as they exist in comics).  So, my opinion is that at some extreme upper limit Flash would be faster than a Kryptonian because Flash basically is speed.

That is just an opinion, but I think it makes some kinda sense!

Kryptonite continually drains Superman's powers up to the point where it kills him.  If he had a kryptonite bullet in his chest, he would grow progressively weaker with every step he took, so, I think that if the race was of any decent length, Data would be able to beat the Man-of-Steel.

Thanks John!

Expertise

I am an expert on the storylines of most DC and Marvel comics particularly the X-Men, Justice League and most Marvel comics of the 70's, 80's and early 90's. The characters with which I am the most familiar are Daredevil, Iron Man, Batman, and the Avengers. I am a rabid Green Lantern fan as well and would put that as one of my favorite things in life! One thing I won't do is estimate the value of a comic book, if that is what you need check out www.comicspriceguide.com

Experience

I have collected comic books for 36 years and have close relatives in the industry who helped shape the direction of comics in the early seventies.
