About Kellen Tyler
Expertise
As a hardcore X-Men fan, I can answer any question about Marvel's Mighty Mutants. I can also answer questions about the spin-off groups (X-Factor, New Mutants/X-Force, Excalibur, Generation X, New X-Men, and the other many incarnations). I specialize in the X-universe but I can answer a lot of Marvel questions as well. Make Mine Marvel. In addition to the comics, I can answer questions about the X-Men cartoons (TAS from the 90s and Evolution) as well as the X-Men feature films. I don't have any expertise or knowledge of the DC Universe.

Experience
I have the entire run of UNCANNY X-MEN (from the first issue in September 1963) up to today. I also have a huge portion of (adjectiveless) X-Men (the second series), X-Factor (volumes 1 and 2), X-Force, Excalibur (volume 1, some of volume 2, some of New Excalibur); Generation X; and New X-Men. I have very few issues of New Mutants but I am proficient in my New Mutants knowledge.

Comic books (Comics) - X-Men Cover Art

Question
Hey Kellen,

I have been collecting X-Men and X-Men related comics since
1979. In this last decade i have condensed my collection to collecting the Uncanny X-Men only. I am concerned with the cover artwork for the Uncanny. I recall back in the 80's with the New Mutants started throwing ink on the cover. It was the beginning of the end in my opinion. I havent seen a good Uncanny cover since #391. And since issue #503 and the upcoming annual in January Uncanny is more like a Marvel version of Maxim magazine with the sexy girls. Don't get me wrong ...i like the sex appeal of the girls but if i want that i will purchase Heavy Metal !!! I am getting discouraged and have been thinking of selling my collection. Any insight on what the hell Marvel is doing to their greatest title? Where have all the good artists gone? Is the Uncanny a training comic for new artists or new styles?

HELP !!!

Answer
Hi Brian,

I'm not sure I understand your question.  Are you asking if there is still good cover art?  I think so... but maybe not with Uncanny.  You can take a look at marvel.com and check under the wallpapers they have there (their wallpapers are mostly all cover art from their titles) and check out what they have.  I like a lot of them but not so much from Uncanny... especially with Greg Land and Terry Dodson doing the art (they are not my faves).

I really like David Finch, Michael Turner (RIP), Leniel Yu, Mark Brooks, Frank Cho, and Clayton Crain.  Check out Clayton Crain's covers for the first few issues of X-Force (volume 2)... they are spectacular.

As for Uncanny, I think the title is just going through a dry spell with their artists now.  It'll probably change soon enough.
