Question
I was looking throught my fathers boxes and things in his attic and well there is about 20-27 comic books. They are about 40 years old they are  superman, batman, and adventure comics just diffrent kinds. I would just like to know how much do you think they are worth and if you do not know do you know anyone who does?

Answer
Hi Christina

These comics, if in solid condition, are probably worth a little bit but not a huge amount.  DC superhero comics of this time period in average condition will generally fetch around $5 to $10 each.  Average condition means some creasing and small tears but no major tears or excessive tanning of pages.  If the comics are in better than average shape, they would be worth more, and if in newsstand new shape, they could be worth $100+ per issue.

It's also possible that you have some "special" issues, such as the first appearance of a major character, that would be worth more.  You can get a sense of what they might sell for by browsing past auctions on eBay.  Or check out this site:

You have to sign up for an account, but it's free.  (Don't pay attention to their high-condition prices, though, which are not realistic.)

Feel free to follow up if you have more questions.

I have extensive knowledge on comic books published from 1897 through 1975. My knowledge goes beyond superheroes to include early strip reprints from 1897-1930 or so, science fiction, horror comics of the 50s and 70s, love, crime, satire and other genres. I can provide advice on buying or selling comics as well as answering general queries.

I am a longtime collector and occasional seller of older comics.
