Question
Hi Chris,

I have had 2 Stars Wars comic books since I was 6 years old ( I am now 37 ), my father did the advertising and promotion in Australia for the first Star wars movie. We played with, threw out and broke so much merchandise that would've been worth something today. Oh well, I was 6.

Anway... I have 2 comic books:

1. " Marvel Comic Group " Star Wars - 30 cents
" Fabulous First Issue "
1 July 02817

It quite good condition, very slight rip around the staples, but still intact

2. " Marvel Comic Group " Star Wars - 30 cents

2 August 02817 ( edition number 2 I believe )

A few slight rips on the spine, some of the coupons filled out because I was going to send them off when I was a kid.

Both are still in very good condition, not brand new looking because hey, they are 31 years old.

These are NOT reprints, they are definitely originals.

Can you give me a idea please as to what they may be worth? I'd really appreciate it.... I read perhaps up to US$3000.00? Is this true??

Cheers,

Sean

Answer
Hi Sean

There is a very valuable edition of Star Wars #1, but unfortunately it is not the edition you own.  As well as the regular edition, Marvel also put out a .35 cent cover price edition in very limited distribution.  It is the first comic to ever have a UPC code on it, and for some reason, collectors have decided the different cover price and UPC code make this worth 50 times as much as the regular edition.  Go figure.

The standard #1 and #2 list in the price guide for $80 and $35 respectively in newsstand new condition.  They drop pretty sharply with any wear or damage, though, so unfortunately I would expect yours to be more in the $10 range.
