Question
I have a 3 x10 inch lead printing plate of a Popeye comic strip. It is titled: Popeye, the recruiting officer, has food for thought!  We think it is of the World War II era. Can you give us an idea of what it is worth and whom to contact for more information.

Answer
Hi Char

I have seen printing plates being sold on eBay, though never specifically Popeye plates.  I have seen other, even earlier comic characters like Buster Brown.  In my experience, they never go for a huge amount of money--maybe $20 or $30 if they are in pretty decent shape.  Then again, the ones I have seen are usually single panel.  If you have one for a complete strip, it could be worth 3 or 4 times as much.

Unfortunately, there is no established price guide I am aware of for this type of item.
