Question
In the late 1980's I bought a Justice League comic at a bookstore because it was the next issue in the series.  Years alter I remember seeing in a comic collector book that this issue, when first released, had the wrong cover on it and it was worth $100 back then.  Can you tell me what issue that was?  I'm currently trying to sell my small collection of over a thousand late 80's DC comics and would like to make sure that I don't include a valuable comic along with the commons.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Chuck -

My best guess is that the issue you are talking about is Justice League #3 (July 1987)which featured Captain Marvel, Batman and Rocket Red on the cover.

I've listed a website below that a lot of the Experts on this site and I use often to do searches, so take a look at that issue when you get a chance and see if its the one you're thinking of.

That particular issue featured two covers, and the second (more valuable) of the pair contained a limited test edition cover where DC was playing around with its trademark logo and included a new one with Superman embedded in it.

If that's not the one you are referring to, do a search for Justice League and see if maybe it was one of the 'alternative' titles like Justice League International or Extreme Justice.  The site has the average values for the issues listed out to the side, so any one that has a sudden jump in value might be the correct one.

Let me know if I can do anything else to help you out, it sounds like you've got a great collection there and there were many 'gems' in the 80s that might fetch you a great price!

Hope that helps, contact me if you have any other questions or need some more help.

Expertise

I am an expert on the storylines of most DC and Marvel comics particularly the X-Men, Justice League and most Marvel comics of the 70's, 80's and early 90's. The characters with which I am the most familiar are Daredevil, Iron Man, Batman, and the Avengers. I am a rabid Green Lantern fan as well and would put that as one of my favorite things in life! One thing I won't do is estimate the value of a comic book, if that is what you need check out www.comicspriceguide.com

Experience

I have collected comic books for 36 years and have close relatives in the industry who helped shape the direction of comics in the early seventies.
