Question
In her back story Hyppolyta is the reincarnated soul of a cavewoman murdered by her mate (Vandal Savage).
What was the cavewomans name?

Answer
Hi, Richard - thanks for your question!

Vandal Savage was not the mate of the unnamed cave woman.  No canon indicators point to this in any story or known DC communication.  It appears that some have taken sequential panels from "History of the DC Universe" and not read the text properly.  I have also read on message boards that someone said "if it were up to me" and recommended that course and others have simply taken that as fact and repeated it around the internet.

Neither the caveman, cavewoman nor her unborn child had actual names, as it was intended by George Perez (and, possibly, Marv Wolfman who was George's writing partner at the time) that the first of the Amazons be a woman who existed before language had really been developed, the first female victim of man's injustice - as was her unborn daughter - who would both be first among the Gods' new creations.

Hope that helps - let me know if you have any other questions!

Expertise

I`ve been collecting comics for over 40 years and am able to answer most questions regarding comics, creators, fandom and the industry from the Golden Age through to today`s comics, with an emphasis on super and action heroes and most of my expertise ranges in the Silver to Modern Ages. My expertise lies in DC Comics/National Periodical Publications, although my general knowledge extends well into Marvel, Tower, Archie, Charlton & many of the "Independent" companies that began in the late 70`s & 80`s. I do have some knowledge of the Western, Funny Animals, Romance and other genres, but to a lesser degree, so please don't grade me on specific knowledge of these areas if you choose to ask me questions on those topics.
