Comic books (Comics)/Superman

Question
Yeah, I spilled some milk the other day, so now the 'o' key on my keyboard no longer works. I have to copy and paste when I need that letter, so it's annoying and time-consuming. For these questions, I will add the 'o's, but for the others, I'll just skip them. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to figure out what I'm trying to write.

1) Could Wolverine slice completely through Superman's torso?

2) Wolverine vs. Armus

3) Wolverine vs. Grizzly Bear

4) Stronger skeleton: Superman's, or Wolverine's?

5) What physical beings (Star Trek and comics) could knock out the Hulk with one hit?

6) Has Batman or Spiderman ever gone up against Captain America?

7) When I asked if Hulk was the 2nd-strongest DC/Marvel character, you said that certain beings could 'stomp the Green Goliath' (I forget their names). Would these beings have a chance against Superman?

8) What physical beings (if any) from DC/Marvel/Star Trek could defeat Superman?

Answer
Hi John -

Sounds like a plan!

1) No, Superman's torso is strong enough to withstand the gravity, pressure, plasma, heat and radiation of the sun, most likely the adamantium would get bent backwards or not be able to proceed if Wolverine tried to cut Superman.

2)  Since Armus has no internal organs to damage, no circulatory system to interfere with, and could apparently generate an energy source sufficient to kill a human being with a mere sweep of his arm, I think the two would fight for an extremely long time until Armus generated a sufficient enough force of energy to burn off all Wolverine's skin and liquify his internal organs.

3)  Somewhere in the deep dark reaches of Deran's comic storage facility I have a comic where Wolverine took on a Grizzly, and I seem to remember that he triumphed.  Sure he took some pretty rough treatment, but in the end he was the only one standing.

4)  Superman - Again, it can withstand the gravitational pull of a sun.  Even Adamantium couldn't do that.

5)  Superman, the Celestials, Galactus, Q, Metron, Organian, The Abomination, Thor (maybe, I dunno too much about him), Green Lantern could conceivably do it, Despero, Darkseid, Orion (maybe), Orca (maybe), Supergirl, General Zod, (any Kryptonian under a yellow sun), Mon-El, Superboy, Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, I'm sure several dozen more could do it.

6)  I don't recall Batman ever going up against Cap.  Spider-man may have but I've never seen that in a comic that I can recall.

7)  No, Superman is pretty much the top of the 'power pyramid' and his ability to absorb solar radiation (potentially limitless) gives him essentially unlimited strength.

In various comics he's been shown to have the ability to move an entire planet, a feat that even the Celestials cannot replicate.

Now, writers have tinkered around with his power over the decades but I think he's pretty much the strongest one there is.  However, the 'new' Supergirl depicted in the most recent comics is reportedly even stronger than him!  So, its hard to say.

8) The supervillain Blackrock came pretty close and could potentially defeat Superman, Phoenix could do it, probably Galactus and/or the Celestials, Q I'm sure could handle it, probably the Metrons or Organians, maybe the Douwd, The Silver Surfer might have a slim chance, maybe Black Bolt from the Inhumans could use the power of his sonic voice to disorient and cause Supes to have a stroke (though I wouldn't lay money on it), Supergirl (the new one) could do it, possibly General Zod and his crew.

Green Lantern could in theory though Superman's greater speed would certainly been a huge obstacle to overcome.  The Flash possibly could do it if he could run around and get enough Krpytonite in time.  Lex Luthor has sure come close a number of times and I Doomsday even killed Superman once!

Thanks!

Expertise

I am an expert on the storylines of most DC and Marvel comics particularly the X-Men, Justice League and most Marvel comics of the 70's, 80's and early 90's. The characters with which I am the most familiar are Daredevil, Iron Man, Batman, and the Avengers. I am a rabid Green Lantern fan as well and would put that as one of my favorite things in life! One thing I won't do is estimate the value of a comic book, if that is what you need check out www.comicspriceguide.com

Experience

I have collected comic books for 36 years and have close relatives in the industry who helped shape the direction of comics in the early seventies.
