Question
QUESTION: Quintessence vs. Q

Captain Marvel vs. Q

Captain Marvel vs. Gog

Phoenix vs. Spectre

Gog vs. Phoenix

Celestials vs. Phantom Stranger

Phantom Stranger vs. Spectre

Phantom Stranger vs. Nagilum

Rank the following from strongest to weakest universe:
A) DC
B) Marvel
C) Star Trek

ANSWER: Hi John -

I'm not familiar with Quintessence

Captain Marvel hasn't shown much ability to manipulate reality and time like Q can so, I'd bet he would win.

Not sure who Gog is.

Phoenix and Spectre - Ultimately I think Spectre would win because he isn't hampered by a his human personality the way Phoenix is.

I'm not to familiar with the Phantom Stranger's ability but there are something like thirteen Celestials so he'd have to be pretty powerful to take all of them on.

The ranking question is hard to answer:

DC has Darkseid, the New Gods, planets full of Daxamites (pseudo Kryptonians) the Guardians and the entire Green Lantern Corps as well as parallel versions of a lot of them (depending on when you look)

Marvel has the Celestials, Galactus, Eternity, the Watchers, the Living Tribunal and a host of other Galactic Level individuals.

Trek has Q, the Metrons, the Organians, the Douwd, the Edo God etc.

So I guess in a conflict between them all Earth would no doubt be destroyed and I wouldn't be here!  It's just too close to call!

Thanks!

QUESTION: Eternity vs. Q

Galactus vs. Q

How do you keep all of the DC/Marvel straight in your head? It's much more complicated than Star Trek.

It seems like basically everyone in these comics has super-impressive abilities, which would blow away virtually 99% of Star Trek races. I mean, there are no "normal" races, such as the Gorn, Tamarians, Sheliak, or Cardassians. It seems like everyone is capable of massively altering the earth or galaxy, etc. Do you agree?

Answer
Hmmm probably Eternity.

I am one of those lucky people who was born with a really frightening ability to remember people and names.

When I was in college I was able to keep the names of 4 to 5,000 members of a tennis/swim club where I worked straight. That one even amazed me!

There are 'normal' races scattered in the comics, you just have to look:

In Marvel the Zenn-Lavians, Galadorians, Kree and Shi'Ar have human (or equivalent) levels of strength more or less. All three have vastly superior technology however. The Zenn-Lavians and Galadorans even look human!

In DC the Daxamites are more or less human (unless exposed to a yellow sun), the Korugarians (Sinestro and Soranik Natu's people), and the Thanagarians are fairly normal without super impressive powers.

In Star Trek most of the races do not have super impressive powers, in fact most of them are fairly analogous to humans but with mysterious foreheads!

Thanks!

Expertise

I am an expert on the storylines of most DC and Marvel comics particularly the X-Men, Justice League and most Marvel comics of the 70's, 80's and early 90's. The characters with which I am the most familiar are Daredevil, Iron Man, Batman, and the Avengers. I am a rabid Green Lantern fan as well and would put that as one of my favorite things in life! One thing I won't do is estimate the value of a comic book, if that is what you need check out www.comicspriceguide.com

Experience

I have collected comic books for 36 years and have close relatives in the industry who helped shape the direction of comics in the early seventies.
