Comic books (Comics)/Another Forgotten Horror/Sci Fi
Expert: Chris Brown - 11/30/2010
QuestionI remember having a horror/sci-fi anthology comic that was given to me by my grandfather when I was younger.
The cover featured a giant man who kind of had the rocky features of The Thing (from the Fantastic Four).
This Giant Man was attacking people in a subway station. I seem to remember escalators.
This was also the main story of the issue.
Any ideas what comic this was. I really would love to find a copy of it.
Thanks
AnswerHi Dean
I can't say exactly what comic you're referring to, but I'm guessing you are thinking of one of the fantasy/monster comics put out by Marvel comics in the late 50s or early 60s. You can look at the covers of these online and see if one rings a bell for you. Many of them have characters reminiscent of the Thing.
Check out the website
www.comics.org
The most likely titles and issue numbers are
Journey into Mystery 53-82
Strange Tales 70-100
Tales of Suspense 1-28
Tales to Astonish 1-34
Most of these covers, by the way, were drawn by Jack Kirby, the original artist of the Fantastic Four and the Thing.
If none of these are the issue you are thinking of, let me know and I can give you some other ideas of titles to look at. We may need to narrow down your memory further of titles (and/or comic companies) you were reading, years you were reading comics, etc.
Good luck!
Chris
