Question
Dear Sir

I have a STAR WARS collecters edition comic (marvel special edition) Volume 1, Number 1 1977 Issue Priced $1:00 Canadian/American.

I was wondering if this Comic is Worth anything or is it just a comic?????  Would like to hear your Views on this Question, many thanks...

Answer
Hi, Robert - thanks for your question!

This is what is referred to as a "Treasury Size" Edition, which reprinted the official adaptation of the first Star Wars film (there were two parts to this edition, this one reprints the regular-sized series, issues 1-3).

To some, it's considered a collectible if it is in excellent condition.  Be aware that comics buyers examine comics as if they were a rare jewel and will be extremely finicky about the grade.

Here is a tool that might help you grade your book:

As for its value, well, if it were in pristine condition (Mint), it could possibly bring $40.00 at a retail establishment.  I suggest you check around eBay and the like to see if there's anyone getting that for a comic in the same condition as yours.  I recommend a title search for "Star Wars Special Edition Marvel" as the search phrase.

I hope this is helpful - let me know if there are any other questions!

I`ve been collecting comics for over 40 years and am able to answer most questions regarding comics, creators, fandom and the industry from the Golden Age through to today`s comics, with an emphasis on super and action heroes and most of my expertise ranges in the Silver to Modern Ages. My expertise lies in DC Comics/National Periodical Publications, although my general knowledge extends well into Marvel, Tower, Archie, Charlton & many of the "Independent" companies that began in the late 70`s & 80`s. I do have some knowledge of the Western, Funny Animals, Romance and other genres, but to a lesser degree, so please don't grade me on specific knowledge of these areas if you choose to ask me questions on those topics.
