Question
hi chris, this is anindya from India. i'm an aspiring comic book artist and would like to submit my portfolio to some companies in the US. i would like to know whether the US companies accept portfolios from foreign countries like mine and what r my chances of getting a break into the American comics industry.

Answer
Hi Anindya

This is not really in my direct line of expertise.  However, I think if your portfolio shows talent that the companies would be interested in, they will look at your artwork regardless of where it comes from.  I'm not sure though how easy it would be for you to actually work for a U.S. company while living in India--I suppose that would partly depend on your confidence in the international delivery services to not lose your art and to deliver at an affordable price.

I hope it works well for you!  If you are able to show an ability with sequential artwork, I'm sure you will find some interest.

I have extensive knowledge on comic books published from 1897 through 1975. My knowledge goes beyond superheroes to include early strip reprints from 1897-1930 or so, science fiction, horror comics of the 50s and 70s, love, crime, satire and other genres. I can provide advice on buying or selling comics as well as answering general queries.

I am a longtime collector and occasional seller of older comics.
