Comic books (Comics)/Production error daredevil #33
Expert: Chris Brown - 7/17/2010
Question
I have a Daredevil #33 from the 60's. It's probably in 8.0 - 8.5 conditionbecause of some yellowing along the edges of the pages But it has a production error. The cover was folded and stapled wrong.
With coins, something like this would make it more valuable. I've heard mixed reviews about production errors in comics. Does this make the comic more or less valuable?
Answer
Hi Ramsey
Sorry for some reason my email account sent the notice I received about your question to my Junk Mail folder, and I just discovered you had posted a question today. I would have responded sooner if not for this email problem.
I assume that by production error, you mean the fact that the cover is not properly lined up on your comic. Unfortunately, comics are not like coins or stamps in terms of errors of this sort. Coins and stamps all generally come off the presses exactly the same, making errors rare and special. Comics, however, often come off the presses with various printing flaws. Because printing flaws are not that uncommon in comics, the most valuable copies are the ones without any flaws rather than the ones with flaws. The only notable exception to this rule is that comics are worth more when they get accidentally printed with double covers.
Therefore, your comic would be worth a little less than a copy with a perfectly aligned cover. However, as long as the artwork is not affected and the staples are not so misaligned as to make it hard to read, the difference should not be too significant.
