Question

Dick Tracy and Flat To
Hello Mr. Brown,
I have found two pictures that appear to be some kind of promotion given by the Chicago tribune in 1963. One is titled "Dick Tracy and his wrist radio" and the other is "Flat Top takes a stroll"  Printed around the edge are Kenner Products Company in 1963 for The Chicago tribune-New York News Syndicate. They are on paper with lots of glitter. Five colors of glitter have been used.  There is a US. Patent No. 2:825,150; other pats. pending also written on the front. They appear to be very rare. I cannot  find any other examples anywhere. I pulled them from a seat of an organ from the 1963 era.  They are in good condition.  There are two small holes in each one where maybe an old staple once was but was carefully extracted years ago. I happen to be born in 1963 so i find them totally cool!  There is nothing on the backs, it is blank.

Answer
Hi Robert

I agree, this is a fun item.  I did a little research and determined that what you have is from a Kenner's Sparkle Paints set.  There were apparently two with Dick Tracy pictures included.  Here is a scan of the box for one of them:

So it looks like you have a couple pictures from one of these sets, where a child added some glue and attached sparkles (as was intended).

If you do a Google search for "Kenner's Sparkle Paints," you will find a lot of other info on the many different sets put out by Kenner in the early 60s.

Enjoy!
