Question
i have an issue never been opened still in plastic wrap. from june of 1938 its a first issue superman. how much would it go for, and should i hold on to it or not?

Answer
Hi Amy

The first issue of Superman, issued in June of 1938, is actually Action Comics #1.  This is the most valuable comic book one can own.  In even average condition, it would sell for tens of thousands.  In high grade, it would sell for hundreds of thousands.

However, this book was not issued in plastic wrap.  It has been reprinted at various times.  Where did you get it from and do you have reason to believe it is the original issue published in 1938?  Reprint editions would not have any significant value.

As to whether or not you should hold onto it, that is a personal decision.  As with stocks or other investments, it is difficult to know how the value might change in coming years.
