AnswerHi :
Your question is a litle complex to answer.
I used to read X Men during the golden years but I have stopped reading & collecting them for nearly 10 years. So,
I will not give you a definitive answer about this but answer as far as my knowledge goes.
There are two core X-Men series :
The first series started in 1963 under the title X Men. Title was changed to Uncanny X Men from issue 141 onwards.
In 1991, the second series (starring Jim Lee Art) started. Title changed to New X-Men from issue 114.
A number of mini series were published in the 80s, featuring X-Men with popular other Marvel heroes, such as the Micronauts.
In the early 80s, some characters also started to be featured in their own mini series, such as Wolverine, Nightstalker, etc.
In the late 80s/early 90s, characters such as Wolverine took off in their own mini series.
Also, in the 90s, new groups, related to some extent to the original X-Men, got their own titles, such as X Factor (alternative X Men title), Power Pack, New Mutants, X Force, Generation X, etc. Most of them ceased publication but some are still running such as X Factor.
In parallel, other X Men titles were publised as one off stories, such as X-Men Unlimited.
I am not sure how many titles are currently running but I pretty sure that the same pattern is still being followed : Core X Men titles, Separate series featuring prominent characters from the various X-Groups, Mini Series featuring well known characters, etc.
I am sure checking the latest edition of the Comics Buyer's Guide or any other comic related publication (such as Wizard, etc) will give you a pretty good overview of current titles.
I hope this is useful.
