Expert: Terrence Cullen - 5/20/2009

Question
hello im anthony a 23year veterian deputy sheriff and got 7 more years before i retired. i want to buy property in which i can live atop of a store front or an former bar that i can convert into a sports bar. do they have places that use to be a bar and what do i need to get started. ts been my dream to own a sports bar and since i dont drink and never has. i felt like before i get to older than 41 that i can build my dream to make it come true.

Answer
In order to accomplish your goals you will need to research where you want to open your place. The most important thing in any restaurant is the location. Second, you will need to assess whether you have the wherewithal to pull it off on your own--either financially or as an operator. Do you have a banking relationship? Do you have cash for a down payment?  Is there a property that fits your dream scenario?  Right now, it is just a dream--add a little flesh. Good Luck. TC
