Hi Bobbert,I am from Nepal and I would kike to know your opinion on a processor I want to buy for my computer.Here in Nepal the computer market is limited and the two processors available are intel e6700 of 1066 mhz fsb and q9300 2.5 ghz qaud core processor.As my ram is of 800 mhz the shopkeeper suggests not to keep a processor of 1333 mhz fsb as it will make no difference in the performance but i am searching for a processor of 1333mhz fsb,preferably the intel e6750 or e8400.SO i would like to know if what he says is true and investing on 1333mhz is useless and incompatible with my 800 mhz ram?Should I buy the 1066 mhz processor just because it is incompatible with my ram?Or should I go with q9300?Please help me choose between theses processor.
Answer
No, there will be no performance issue having a CPU with a higher FSB, the motherboard will automatically adjust the ratio between the CPU FSB and the memory (called a "divider") and things will work fluidly. The Q9300 will be a more powerful processor, as it is a quad core CPU, instead of a dual core, which means it will handle multi-tasking and compute intensive tasks (such as video encoding) better than the E6700. Although, if you don't need a heavy amount of compute power, the E6700 would likely be a better choice due to budget (at least based on American and European prices, the E6700 is generally cheaper).
