Components for Building Computers From Scratch - Processor or graphic card

Question
QUESTION: Hi Bobbert,I am from Nepal and I would kike to know your opinion on a processor I want to buy for my computer. Here in Nepal the computer market is limited and the two processors available are intel e6700 of 1066 mhz fsb and q9300 2.5 ghz qaud core processor. As my ram is of 800 mhz the shopkeeper suggests not to keep a processor of 1333 mhz fsb as it will make no difference in the performance but i am searching for a processor of 1333mhz fsb, preferably the intel e6750 or e8400.SO i would like to know if what he says is true and investing on 1333mhz is useless and incompatible with my 800 mhz ram?Should I buy the 1066 mhz processor just because it is incompatible with my ram?Or should I go with q9300?Please help me choose between theses processor.

ANSWER: No, there will be no performance issue having a CPU with a higher FSB, the motherboard will automatically adjust the ratio between the CPU FSB and the memory (called a "divider") and things will work fluidly. The Q9300 will be a more powerful processor, as it is a quad core CPU, instead of a dual core, which means it will handle multi-tasking and compute intensive tasks (such as video encoding) better than the E6700. Although, if you don't need a heavy amount of compute power, the E6700 would likely be a better choice due to budget (at least based on American and European prices, the E6700 is generally cheaper).

Either way you won't likely see an issue, if you have more questions, feel free to ask via follow-up.

QUESTION: Thanks for the advice.I want to buy the processor for sole purpose of gaming so is e6700 or q9300 or e8400 will be the best choice. My motherboard is MSI P6n platinum SLI and graphic card is MSI NX 8800gts 320 mb.I hope you know very well about these hardwares.SO will adding another 8800gts be better than upgrading the processor in order to play the latest games at fairly high settings?

ANSWER: What processor do you have currently? Any of the CPUs selected would be a good option, the E8400 is likely the best value though, although thats based on European/American pricing schemes (if the price difference between them is negligible, the Q9300 does offer more features, but isn't required (it isn't worth double the price, for its performance gain)).

Regarding adding another 8800GTS, yes, this would be a far more dramatic upgrade with regards to gaming performance, if you decide to go this route, ensure you purchase another 320MB card (you want the memory sizes to match), this will likely give you a far greater advantage with game performance as opposed to a new CPU, and assuming you have a decent CPU at present, I would probably suggest the second 8800GTS 320MB opposed to the new CPU.

QUESTION: Well currently I have a really low end processor which is the e4500 and also for a new graphic upgrade my pci express runs at 8x.So is it wise to buy a graphic card?

Answer
The E4500 shouldn't be a dramatic issue for games, you don't need a quadcore for gaming, and the E6600/6700 isn't going to be a very dramatic difference. Honestly I'd keep the 4500 as is. Regarding the PCIe bandwidth, this makes no difference, don't worry about it.
