Composting/DONKEY & MULE MANURE AS COMPOST

Question
My husband and I have two adorable donkeys (Noddy - about to become a mum) and Big Ears (about to become a dad) as well as our very pretty mule, Muffin.

Would you be kind enough to advise me whether or not we can use their manure as compost and how we should go about it.  Please use simple language as we are not professional gardeners ... just budding enthusiastic amateurs!

Thank you and kindest regards

Answer
Hello Judith

Yes you can use this as Compost. When it is in the Fresh stage, keep it wet, along with the Straw or Hay I am sure you are using in the bedding. Although not quite as good as Cow Manure, it is a fine additive. Compost the manure first before you use it, in anyway that suits your needs. A Compost Pile will Heat up the Manure, and that way will kill weeds seeds that are passed through the System.

Never use Fresh Manure right in the Field or Garden if you choose not to compost it, spread it in the Fall, and let the Winter break it down, and till it under in the Spring.

I hope this answers your question, but if I have missed something here, please feel free to follow-up with a more specific question.
