Question
I have finished compost in my wire bins. I can't use it as fast as I make it. As time passes, the compost shrinks back into the ground. Can I store the finished compost in large plastic trash cans and if so, should I drill holes to allow air into the container? I hate losing all that compost I worked to make. From last fall to spring I lost at least half the volume of my finished compost bin.

Answer
Hello JoAnne

Yes you may store the Compost, and yes it should have good Air Circulation. Compost will shrink, till it's almost nothing, the Shrinkage that you are referring to, is just the Compost, completely Decomposing. I suspect that the Compost is still working, and not fully Decomposed.
