Computer Law/Proving who hacked into my email

Question
PLEASE DO NOT REVEAL MY EMAIL ADDRESS!

A person I know hacked into my yahoo e-mail account.
I know who it is. The person, of course, has denied it.
That person hacked into my account to learn my activities, then sent an e-mail regarding that.  The person later went in and deleted their e-mail.

I know the 8-day time period when it occurred.
I was not using my e-mail for 5 of those days.

How would I obtain proof of who hacked into my e-mail account?
I surmise that proof would be in the form of ascertaining what IP address accessed my e-mail, then pinpointing the person at that IP address.

Answer
Hi M,

I do not get to see your e-mail address so no worries there. The system hides it even from me.

As for your question, yes it by the accessing IP address, but that is a job for the police. If you are pretty sure it has happened and you have a suspect, you need to call the police and report it as soon as you can. You see the longer you wait, the more chance of the records that they need being deleted by your ISP. Call your local police and report a "computer crime case". If they can not help you (either from lack of manpower or no trained detectives in this area) they should refer you to an agency that can help. But don't delay.

Be well and stay safe..
