Question
I recently moved into a dorm room at the college I attend located in Ohio.  I was suspicious of computer getting hacked and somewhat paranoid in the first place knowing how easy the task is, being on the same network.  Well after a few days a group of people started making comments in their room which is located directly across the hall from me that I couldn't quite understand how they would know the information they did.  I consistently check the typical routes into my machine and all seemed safe.  Well I started to feel safe and didn’t think anyone possessed the knowledge in range to access my computer, but then a comment that really irritated me was made and that’s when I knew.  So I checked every possible route found the access point and instantaneously everyone in the room across the hall freaked out knowing they were caught.  I reviewed the information logged, to find they had remote access to my computer from the hour I moved in.  Even worst they were watching me on my webcam, and I don’t have proof outside of my machine but I believe they are watching a number of people on their webcam’s.  I know who participated in the activities, and have decided to turn it over to the university, considering a good amount if not all of my personal and sensitive information was invaded, and even worst I have to endure the embarrassment of personal and private actions of myself and others while I was being watched.  My question is should I take legal action as well?  What kind of legal action can I take and how do I go about it? I believe their full intent is to watch various people having sex and actually do considering some of the comments I’ve heard.  Thanks in advance for any help, guidance, and direction that can be offered!

Answer
Hi Ryan,

You need to call your campus police immediately! This is not the first case of this happening and they need to be reported. Make sure you explain to the police exactly what you suspected, why and what you've found. They should take it fro there.

This is from my town! I know this case well, I advised them on the case.

SO please call the campus police immediately, if they are doing it to you, they are doing to others and they need to be caught and dealt with. Your not being paranoid, your being careful and have a right to privacy.
