Dear Jeff,
Greetings!!! Your writings are really useful to lot of us who are not up to your stature and would love to grow up in future. I have a couple of questions on the technical side and would remain grateful if you take the pain to guide me in the right direction. The questions are as follows:
1. Can I Design and Implement a “Hospital Information System” on the 3-Tier Client/Server Architecture with MySQL/Oracle as the Database Layer, Application Layer(or, Application Server) written in C/C++ on Linux Platform and the Presentation Layer(Thin Client)being implemented with Java? If I can, then can u guide me what all to study so that I can merge the C/C++ programs with the Java frontend and the MySQL/Oracle backend?
2. Will this System be referred as an ERP System? Or, in other words, can I implement an ERP System on the Client/Server Architecture?

1. Yes you can design an 'Hospital Information System' on tier client/server architecture but you will need some customizations especially if running on a Linux system.

2. ERP System?
No, ERP systems are normally are in MFG environment thereby planning for example the different steps for airplane build INCLUDING forcasting out raw material 'resources'.
