Question
Hi Lorry,

The e-mail I specified above is for my work account, but the problem I'm having is with my computer at home.

Problem description matches exactly the question that was posted to "Leslie E Cowdrey" on this site a few days ago. In the answer Leslie mentioned a link that user should follow to get instructions, but that link was nowhere to be found.

Here is a problem:
"I have got two icons on my desktop which look like genuine windows help center icons but they actually are links to the storage protector site. On deleting them they reappear from nowhere. Every now and then i get balloons telling me my computer is slow and memory termination messages etc all of which are fake. I have thousands of .tmp files in my documents which cannot be deletd. every 15 minutes my computer hangs and i have to restart."

Thank you very much for your time and help!

Answer
Hi Tatjana,

I would suggest using Internet Explore, go to:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

Click the GO button, then under Virus Detection, click Start. You might be told that you need to download and install ActiveX Controls for the scan to work, answer Yes.

Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to: http://www.symantec.com/search/  and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.

I would also suggest downloading Spybot S&D 1.5 for free from:

http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html

Before running Spybot, check for updates.

Hope this helps!

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
