hi,
i am having problems with my pc and am unsure if it is a virus, every 5 or 10 min, for instance i could be online playing poker and or shopping online etc when windows begin opening all over the screen, such as task manager, start menu, document files and small refresh boxes etc open and close all over the screen, really fast, it will for 40 seconds and the original activity will freeze, although i have scanned for viruses none have been detected. but can think of no other reason why this is happening,

Hi Fiona,

Using Internet Explorer, go to:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

Click the GO button, then under Virus Detection, click Start. You might be told that you need to download and install ActiveX Controls for the scan to work, answer Yes.

Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to: http://www.symantec.com/search/  and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.

I would also suggest downloading Spybot Search & Destroy 1.5 for free from:

Check for updates before running Spybot scan.
