Computer Security & Viruses/Got rid of the viruses, but....

Question
My computer recently got taken over with virus and adware.  Where ever I tried to go, I would be redirected to a "antispyware" site.  Constant pop ups for adware, ect.  New and unwanted desktop icons, ect....
After a couple days, I got rid of all of it with a little help.  3 days now, and no sign of any of that stuff any more.
HOWEVER,... now my computer is running really slow.  For example, before the viruses, if I ran a ping test for yahoo.... the average was 12ms.  Now I do a ping test, and the average is about 57ms.
Is there anything you could suggest to get my speed back to what it was?

Answer
Hi Dale,

Go to a website called www.speedguide.net on there you can download a utility called the TCP Optimizer that will tweak your network connections.  Keep in mind that the ping time results aren't necessarily caused by your machine, they could be network congestion out of your control.
