Computer Security & Viruses/Can't access administrator settings

Question
Hi, my computer had a worm some time ago and I once my anti virus program (Norton) removed it and I restarted the computer I have a box that comes up saying that it cannot find file C:\WINNT/system32\proper.exe. I did't think much about it until I tried to access security settings and it keeps telling me that Im not logged on as an system administrator. In the only user on the computer so I have never set it with any outer setting than an administrator setting. I also can't doing any editing of programs, is something locking me out ???

                         Thanks Michael

Answer
Hi Michael,
Proper.exe is connected with a fake security alert Trojan.
I suggest you install Avast and see if that fixes it.

However you may still need to do some tidying up.
You could dnload the free Hijack This program, run it and save the log results. Then submit the log to a reliable help Forum.
I recommend MajorGeeks alot. They are good people there and will help you.
Register at the Forum and submit your log at the Malware section.

Let me know what Avast finds and if it worked.
I'll watch for you at MajorGeeks. I stop in there myself occasionally.

Take care,
