Computer Security & Viruses/Computer reboot, possible virus?

Question
Hi,

I recently had a problem with my computer where it would start rebooting by itself.  Originally when this happened, I just rebuilt my computer thinking it might be a hardware issue (and not to mention it was getting old at the time).  The only thing I replaced was the motherboard, the CPU, and the memory.  Everything else such as the harddrive, CD/DVD drives, power supply, etc. were kept from the old system.

Once the new system was assembled, I didn't have any problems but recently, I've been getting a reboot issue to occur everytime Windows XP tries to load up.  It's gotten to the point that I can't even enter Safe Mode (cause it'll just do the same reboot) when asked if I want to start up normally, safe mode, etc.

Some suggested it might be the memory but I don't think this is the case as I mentioned earlier, it was newly bought and installed just a few months ago.  I'm thinking it's a virus but can't say for sure.

My question is, what's the most likely cause of this?  If it is a virus, how would I be able to get rid of it if I can't get into XP at all (not even in safe mode)?  PLEASE HELP!

Answer
Don't think it's a virus (though it's not impossible).

After careful review of all the possible solutions, please note the words in the red and pink frame box at the top of the page here:

Based on the information you've provided about your system and the problem, I'd suggest going to Misc. Hardware Issues and "Other Known Issues and Hints (after checking "all drivers for all hardware devices to ensure that they are the current best for Windows XP").

It's almost impossible to say more without knowing more about your system, drivers and applications, but as you can see there are a few variables.

The following gives additional info and/or different ways of saying the same thing.
