Question
I have a fairly new computer but put Windows 98se back on b/c I hated XP.  Aol has always given me mcafee for free but they told me that I needed to delete it b/c something was running slow and told me to reinstall it.  I tried to reinstall by going to install.av.aol.com and it doesn't work.  They said that the only way for me to get it to work is to update to windows XP .  Can you help?

Answer
Hi Dawn,

Sorry to hear that you don't care for Windows XP but the truth of the matter is that AOL gave you the correct advice. Unless you update to Windows XP, it will not work.

Windows XP may be updated via Windows Update, whereas Windows 98SE can not, also Windows XP is more secure than Windows 98SE.

I would strongly suggest that you install Windows XP, go to Windows Update and download the available updates, including Service Pack 3.

If you decide that you really want to stay with Windows 98SE, try downloading Avast, a free anti-vius program that will work with Windows 98SE from:

Hope this helps!

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
