QUESTION: Hi Brian,
I have done sfc /scannow and the chkdsk, but...they ask teh CD XP Prof (but I have,Legally, home edition), he wants the map DLL-cache.
AVG still don't update. "Invalid update control CTF file" is the message.

ANSWER: Hi Dorina

XP Home should work just as well...did you try to use it when scannow asked for a disk?
The error you are getting with AVG is due to .ctf file conflicts in the AVG folder.  Download del_avg_ctf.zip and save to Desktop:

Unzip the file and double-click the script "del_avg_ctf.vbs".  That should solve the update problem.

QUESTION: Hi Brian,
I did use the XP home cd-rom when sannow asked, but it doesn't work. After i did a repairinstallation of XP, again scannow, it works.

It's OK...i have patience.And..you have a lot of patience with me, isn't it?! So..
But it isn't ok with my PC. Today I can't even open you answer there, also .pps-files I received by mail.. It opens several windows of internet explorer, don't get them closed etc..
Can you see something on the HJT (above) or what must I do?

Hi Dorina

Yes, we all need patience  :-)
I do not see any malware running which would cause the problems you are describing.  So let's start again with the basics.  Download CCleaner from here:
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim
Install the program, then run the Cleaner.  This will delete unnecessary and temporary files.  I would also like for you to run the Registry Cleaner as well.  This may correct the errors you are getting.  Let me know if this makes any difference, or if you cannot download the program at all.
