Computer Security & Viruses/Anti-Virus telling of problem

Question
I was told of an update for the Avira AntiVirus.  When I clicked to get it, my PC had a window with the heading OpenOffice.org2.2 saying:
"Either another instance of Open Office.org is accessing your personal settings or your personal settings are locked.
Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in your personal settings.  Before continuing, you should make sure user Customer closes OpenOffice.org on host Customer.
Do you really want to continue?  Yes ___ No ____ "
I always click NO.
I want to get the update because I keep on getting a notice from AntiVir Guard of a virus or something called HTML/Crypted.Gen which is trying to get into my PC.  It always has "Deny Access" checked so I close it with that.  It comes back and I choose "Delete".  Then it doesn't come up for a while.
(I saved my Search for Open Office - many many files.)
Also I tried to open an attachment, I got the same notice that is in quotes above.
What do I do?  Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi CG

You have to delete the lock file. It is usually located in C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\OpenOffice.org2. It's a hidden file, so if you do a search for it, you will need to select 'More Advanced Options' to include hidden files and folders in the search.
