Computer Security & Viruses/Display - Virus or HW Problem
Expert: Lorry - 12/13/2008
QuestionOK, touch one (for me). When I turn on my son's Fusitsu laptop, the windows splash screen starts ok ok, and then immediately starts to degrade. I would describe it as thousand little blocks, that move around on the screen., It gets worse and worse, until the machine restarts itself.
Thanks in advance,
Bill
AnswerHi Bill,
Am assuming that your on has an anti-virus program installed, if correct, start Windows in Safe Mode by clicking the "F8" when Windows first starts until you get a screen with various ways to tart Windows. Once in Safe Moe, run a virus scan.
You also may want to download Spybot, put it on a floppy/CD and install it on your son's laptop. You can do this also in Safe Mode.'
Once you can start Windows in the regular mode, using INternet Explorer, go to:
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym
Click the GO button, then under Virus Detection, click Start. You might be told that you need to download and install ActiveX Controls for the scan to work, answer Yes.
Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to:
http://www.symantec.com/search/ and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.
Hope this helps!
