Question
Subject: netsh.exe virus?
windows: XP
CPU/Ram: 512mb
problem:
Hi all. The last couple of days everytime I boot up Win XP a dos prompt opens and netsh.exe runs. Sometimes cmd.exe tries to access the internet shortly after. I have checked the registry but can't see these anywhere. This is obviously very annoying. I have recently had to get rid of a virus file called xxx.exe by deleting it manually. Could this problem be connected to that virus? and system restart many times & my antivirus has been disable?how to remove it? Thanks.

Answer
There's an old post (2005) with a question almost identical to yours: Computing.net/answers/security/netshexe-virus/17148.html. It indicates that Spybot Search and Destroy can remove it.

Also, If you're not using a top-rated one, consider trying a new anti-virus application like AVG Anti-virus free (or free trial full version), McAfee, Lavasoft or Norton (removing the one you have now).
