Question
QUESTION: - I just ran several partial and complete antivirus scans yesterday, because the Windows Explorer process (explorer.exe) kept shutting down, even if I restarted it from Task Manager. That problem is now taken care of, but now I keep getting 2 error prompts when I start windows, that say:

"error loading C:/.../byvvw.dll"

- byvvw.dll was one of the "Lop" viruses I had removed to the virus chest (using AVG Antivirus) - why then would I get an error if I cannot load that file, as if I need it?

* Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
* Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
* Click on Install.
* It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
* Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
* Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log (no attachments) into a follow-up here.

Please download and run ATF Cleaner from this link:

Check the box "Select All", then click the "Empty Selected" button.

Next, please download VundoFix to your desktop from here:
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/VundoFix-Download-33165.html
Follow the instructions below to run the program:
· Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
· Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
· You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
· When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
· Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
· You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
· Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
· When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
· Turn your computer back on.

Finally, please post me a fresh HJT log here as a follow-up.

Hi John

It should have deleted the file, but looking through the security forums, it seems Vundofix has trouble removing some items in Vista...so we will go a different route.  Please download Killbox from here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/spyware/KillBox.zip
Unzip to desktop and open killbox.exe.  Check the box that says delete on reboot.  Highlight the entry below and copy it to the clipboard:
C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Temp\byvvw.dll,#1
Then in killbox click File>>Paste from clipboard.
Then click the Red X.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click yes to reboot now.
Upon reboot you may receive a Windows error message looking for the file we just deleted.  Ignore it and then run HJT (scan only) and place a check mark in the box next to the following item, then click the Fix Checked button:

Note that the HJT entry may say file missing after it.
