QuestionQUESTION: I was on the internet and clicked a link to a page and it downloaded something and now my computer is exiting out of my aim and my internet. It tried to lock me out of my aim several times and it types something in either my aim or the internet. It types "awtf you naked o.o http;//mail.xeross.net/18nakedq4bo.jpg.exe" every time. It usually only pops up when aim is open but i deleted it and then downloaded another one and the same thing happens. I have no idea what to do.
ANSWER: Hi Derek,
Evidently the link's site is not a safe one, only download from a known site to play it safe.
To verify that there are no threats on the computer, using Internet Explorer, go to:
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym
Click the GO button, then under Virus Detection, click Start. You might be told that you need to download and install ActiveX Controls for the scan to work, answer Yes.
Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to:
http://www.symantec.com/search/ and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.
I would also suggest downloading Spybot Search & Destroy from:
http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html
Check for updates before running the scan.
Hope this helps!

QUESTION: Nothing came up on the scan. So what do i do now?
AnswerHi Derek,
Did you run both scans? From what you have told me it sounds like spyware, more so than a virus.
What are you trying to download, from what site? Perhaps I can help you get it.
If you have run both of the scans and come up empty handed, that is a good thing. If that is the case, download Ad-aware 2007 from:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
Like Spybot, make sure you check for updates before running the scan.
The following site explains the difference between adware & spyware:
