QUESTION: This is so strange - I still have that problem of msn always coming back as my default homepage...I wish I could send you a screen shot of my norton. The only place where it says 'options' is in the Norton Protection Centre, which then gives me options of showing Norton in my taskbar and asks if I want live updates.....weird....

Can you tell me what version of Norton you are running?  Also, do you have the Norton discs in case you need to do a reinstall?

QUESTION: I bought it online, so I have no discs....but I "should" be able to reinstall from online if necessary no? I registered it Aug 2007, so I would imagine it would be the 2007 version?

ANSWER: Hi Skott

You will have to contact Norton directly to find out if you can download the product for a reinstall.  Send me a HJT log in the meantime.  I may have missed something previously, so it won't hurt to have another look.  After contacting Norton, please follow Norton's procedure to remove their products:

1 Open your Norton product.

2 On the left side of the main product window, under Quick Links, click Norton Account.

3 Click Next.

4 Type in your email address and password for your Norton Account, then click Next.
Note:    
If you do not have a Norton Account set up already, click Create a Norton Account, complete the form, then click Next.

5 Click Next to continue to your Norton Account.

6 Sign into your Norton Account using your email address and password.

7 Click the Norton product that you want to update.

8 Write down the Product Key.

9 Sign out of your Norton Account, then continue.

       Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

Save the file to the Windows desktop.

2 On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal Tool icon.

3 Follow the on-screen instructions.

Hi Skott

Looking over the log, I don't see any malware which would cause a browser redirect, but the problem you are having may not be related to Norton.  I suggest removing the AskSearchBar by going into your Control Panel and running Add/Remove Programs.  I would also try temporarily removing ZoneAlarm.  After that, reboot and see if you can't change the start page.  If those suggestions don't solve the problem, then we know Norton is most likely to blame.
