Computer Security & Viruses/Annoying spyware pop-up

Question
QUESTION: I too am having the same pop-up problem as Jo Ann and Jonas and am at my wit's end. I've tried Norton Anti-Virus, Spybot, Adaware, Smitfraud and all have been unsuccessful in resolving my problem. I'm ready to format my computer. Can you be of further assistance.

ANSWER: Hi Terry,

Before running Spybot and/or Ad-aware, did you download the updates? Do you have Norton installed, or did you run the free scan available from:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

Check out the following from Symantec:

Hope this helps!

QUESTION: Hi Lorry: I've followed all of your suggestions, and still no luck. I viewed the registry values and couldn't find any of the keys identified by Symantec - i.e. suggesting PC Antispyware infection, yet the symptoms persist. More suggestions? Can I purchase anti-spyware/malware software that will detect and destroy this virus?

Answer
Hi Terry,

Did you run the free scan from Symantec?

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid

Did you disable System Restore before removing the threat? Did Symantec find PC Antispyware? If yes, did you follow the directions for removal at:

http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2008-032714-0934-99&

I can answer most questions regarding viruses/Trojans and help to remove them.

Experience

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
