QuestionHello !
Recently i copied a folder containing songs from a flash disk on to my C:\ drive (I have win 98 installed in my C drive and XP professional on my H: drive).I noticed that in this folder there was another folder of the same name. This continued and many false folders have been made in various folders having the same name as that of the parent folder. Also, when i click on any of the False folders three processes are initiated {Fun.exe,SVIQ.exe,dc.exe),and while my PC hung when running in win 98 in the presence of these processes,in win XP i was able to End them. Please advise as to wether these are viruses and on ways to get rid of them.
AnswerHi Haider,
These are viruses, on the partition with Windows XP, using Internet Explorer, go to:
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym
Click the GO button, then under Virus Detection, click Start. You might be told that you need to download and install ActiveX Controls for the scan to work, answer Yes.
Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to:
http://www.symantec.com/search/ and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.
On the partition with Windows 98, do the same but without System Restore.
Hope this helps!
