Question
QUESTION: Hi Brian,
Avast detected Win32:Trojan-gen in files named winsckdo.dll and winskff11.dll located in C:\WINDOWS\system 32.  Spysweeper also detected another which it was (supposedly) able to delete.  When I looked up the Trojan that spy sweeper deleted, it was stated that it could steal financial data.  I spent the better part of yesterday deleting files from this computer and changing financial account passwords.  Could you please check the HiJackThis log for me?  Thank you in advance.

Glad to help.  Your HJT log looks fine.  There are no leftovers from the infection, and your system looks secure from here.  I'd say you did a good job, and it certainly can't hurt to change passwords anyway ( though it is a pain in the rear).  If you need any further assistance, just ask.  Cheers!

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick response.  One thing that I need your help on is that avast has the trojan quarantined in the virus chest.  It does not give me the option to repair or delete the file.  How should I handle this?  Thanks.

According to avast!:

Virus chest

As our customers wished, we included so called Virus Chest to avast! 4 (sometimes called virus quarantine).
The Chest can be thought of as a folder on your disk having special properties that make it a safe, isolated place suitable for storing certain files. You can work with the files in the Chest, even though with some security restrictions.
The main properties of the Virus Chest are complete isolation from the rest of the operating system (no outside process, i.e. no virus either, may access the files inside) and the fact that the files inside the Chest may not be run (i.e. there is no danger in storing viruses there).

I believe that items can be removed from the chest by running the application and going to the Chest module.  Highlight the files under Infected Files that you want to remove, then select Delete.

QUESTION: Ok - I see how to delete the files. However, won't deleting them cause some type of system instability?  I don't want to delete and important part of system 32.  Thanks.

Hi Greg

The files you mentioned are specific to the Trojan virus and are not actual Windows system files.  They are safe to delete.  It is also entirely safe to leave them in the Virus Chest if you are leery of deleting them.  You could leave them in the quarantine for a week or so to make sure your system runs fine without them, then go ahead and delete them.
