Expert: Brian Benosky - 4/5/2008

Question
My Toshiba Satellite  Pro keyboard is behaving strangely. Sometimes it stops responding completely, sometimes keys change functions. Also the multiple selection with shift or ctrl keys works unpredictably.

Hi Brian

Your HJT log looks fine, so you will need to check for other causes of the keyboard's errors.  This may be due to recently installed programs, or possibly driver issues.  I would first check on Toshiba's web site for updated drivers and software.  If that doesn't yield anything, try using Selective Startup (Start-Run-type MSCONFIG) and restart the PC with only necessary system processes at boot.  Then start your normally loaded programs one by one until the keyboard errors start occurring.  This will tell you what program is causing the errors.  If neither suggestion works, then the issue may be hardware related.  You will then need to have it looked at by an authorized service technician.  Good luck!
