About Lorry
Expertise
I can answer most questions regarding viruses/Trojans and help to remove them.

Experience
This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.

Computer Security & Viruses - Protecting against key loggers - What to do?

Expert: Lorry - 5/31/2008

Question
At work i have a PC that i use for work and personal use. It has up to date protection against virus, but if one day i don't work their no more and if the PC that i was using gets infected with key logger virus, is their anyway for me to prevent that?

For example: "Just say i quit on Monday", how can i prevent my personal details from being stolen from key loggers? Like you know weeks ago i typed my user name and passwords for internet banking. How can i delete those records from the PC?

Answer
Hi Shane,

Let's take your example that you quit Monday, your user name and password are still on the hard drive, someone else takes over your job and uses the same computer. Unless the company you worked for cleans the drive and removes any and all of your information, it will still be available. You will not know if the person taking over your job is honest or not, or perhaps if your computer is on a wireless network, someone from the outside could gain that information.

Check out the following sites for information:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keystroke_logging

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardware_keylogger

Various anti-virus programs will protect the computer from keyloggers, for example Norton AntiVirus 2008.

Hope this helps!
Lorry
