Computer Security & Viruses/cell phone spyware

Question
I have read that cell phones can unknowingly have spyware or keyloggers like computers do.  What do you know about this and can you be downloading that stuff when you have free ringtones sent to phone?  I use myxertones.com and have alot of free stuff sent to phone.  But with all the identity theft nowadays, I wonder if I am at risk doing this.
Thanks
james

Answer
Hi J

Yes, cell phones, particularly so-called smart phones, can be subject to infection from malware.  However, there is little risk of it actually happening.  It's easier, and more productive for virus writers to make a program that will affect all Windows computers than a program that can infect a specific model phone.  It's really not worth the effort involved.  It's been done in the virus labs, but no outbreak has yet been detected in the wild...at least no major ones.  So don't worry about downloading ringtones and games for now.  Hope that helps.
